Early life

Lilly was born in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta, Canada to a devoutly Christian family.[1] Her father is a home economics teacher, and her mother is a beauty consultant. Lilly also has a younger sister, whom she has described as "the actor in the family." During her childhood, the family did not have a television.[1]

Before leaving the city of Fort Saskatchewan at the age of 10, she attended three elementary schools. She briefly attended Fort Elementary, Rudolph Henning and James Mowat Elementary. During a phone interview with the local paper, The Record, Evangeline was quoted saying, "When I was a kid, the Fort was tiny. I could ride my bike at five years old from one end of town to the other ... To me Fort Saskatchewan holds a lot of really great memories. I just consider it a little happy hideaway." She also recalled a favorite memory saying, "I remember that there was a drunk driver who was wheeling through town. I remember literally the men sending the women and children into the homes. Then they gathered themselves and ran after this truck. They actually jumped into the cab and jumped onto the window and forced the guy to pull over and go to the cop shop."[citation needed]

Lilly served briefly as a foreign missionary and lived in a grass hut in the Philippines.[citation needed] She founded and ran a world development and human rights committee while studying international relations at the University of British Columbia.[citation needed] She has been a volunteer for children's projects since she was 14.[citation needed] Lilly is a former flight attendant and is fluent in French.[citation needed]

Career

Lilly was discovered on the streets of Kelowna, British Columbia by Ford modeling agency. Although she initially decided to pass on a modeling career, she went ahead and signed with Ford anyway, to help pay for her University of British Columbia tuition and expenses. Despite being signed to Ford Models, she was never actually a fashion model. - "People don’t realise Ford has an acting branch”, she said, “So I was never really a model”.[2]

She was previously featured in several LiveLinks Chatline television commercials and on G4's Judgment Day. She appeared uncredited in the 2003 film Freddy vs. Jason as a high-school girl leaning against a locker, and in an episode of Smallville in a pool hall scene. She also had a guest appearance on the ABC supernatural horror series Kingdom Hospital (2004). Lilly's first speaking role was on Lost.[1] She also appeared in the 2003 teenager film The Lizzie McGuire Movie as an (uncredited) Italian police officer.

When Lilly was cast as Kate in Lost, her main concern was acquiring a work visa to enter the United States. With production literally days away and no news about the visa, casting directors were forced to grudgingly begin re-casting the role of Kate. After nearly 20 auditions, Lilly's work visa was approved/cleared but she arrived on set a day late. Her salary in 2004 for Lost was $80,000. On the heels of her role in Lost, she was voted one of the Breakout Stars of 2004 by Entertainment Weekly. Although Lilly placed eighth in the FHM 100 Sexiest Women in the World 2006 and initially placed second on Maxim's Hot 100 list of 2005,[3] she slipped to #67 in Maxim's 2006 list. On December 14, 2006, Lilly was nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Lead Actress-Drama.

Action figures of Lilly's Lost character are scheduled to be released during the holiday season of 2006.[1] Lilly has said that she hopes Lost would air for a total of five seasons.[1]

Personal life

Lilly was once married to Canadian hockey player Murray Hone,[4] but is now rumoured to be engaged to her Lost co-star Dominic Monaghan.[5] Her known nicknames include "Evi" and "Monkey". Her Lost castmates nicknamed her "Monkey" because of her ability to climb trees with ease, a skill which has been incorporated into her character.[6] Her fellow Lost-actor Josh Holloway also calls her 'Freckles', sharing the nickname his on-screen character 'Sawyer' gave her. She is also known on set for her tomboyishness, Christian faith, and her "potty mouth".[7]

Lilly has stated that she "live[s] in a bubble," specifying that she is not familiar with popular culture and does not watch television or own a TV set.[1] She has also said that she would not appear in a nude scene or perform in sexual scenes that she would consider "gratuitous".[1]

Lilly has also used her celebrity status to help promote Just Yell Fire, a video aimed at teaching teenage girls how to defend themselves against rapists, ie: squeezing their testicles. During the summer break between the first and second seasons of Lost, Lilly spent time visiting the poor in Rwanda.[1]

On December 20, 2006, Lilly's house in Kailua, Hawaii was completely destroyed by fire while she was on the Lost set with one of her two roommates, both of whom work as her stand-ins on the show. The second roommate was off-island at the time of the blaze, which occurred on the final day of shooting before the show’s holiday break.[8] The cause of the fire has now been determined as an electrical fault.

Henry Gale from LOST - Michael Emerson

Benjamin Linus or Ben is a man who was captured by Rousseau and claimed to be Henry Gale, a balloonist who crashed onto the island. His deception was seen through, however, and the truth was revealed — he is the leader of the Others. He is played by the actor: Michael Emerson.

Michael Emerson was born in 1954 in Toledo, Iowa. He attended Drake University in Iowa, graduating in 1976 with a degree in Theatre Arts and moved to New York City, New York. Unable to find work as an actor, Emerson took retail jobs and worked as a freelance illustrator for publications like The Boston Globe and The New York Times. In 1986, he moved to Jacksonville, Florida and acted in local productions through 1993.

In 1993, Emerson enrolled in the Alabama Shakespeare Festival's University of Alabama-sponsored Master of Fine Arts/Professional Actor Training program. Graduating in 1995, he returned to New York and appeared in the annual Alabama Shakespeare Festival showcase. Divorced once, Emerson married actress Carrie Preston in September of 1998.

While acting in regional theater productions, Michael Emerson got his big break in 1997 when he starred as Oscar Wilde in the off-broadway play, Gross Indecency: The Trials of Oscar Wilde. The following year he acted in the off-Broadway production of The Misanthrope with Uma Thurman and in 1999's The Iceman Cometh with Kevin Spacey.

In 2000 to 2001, Emerson moved into television, playing a confessed serial killer in several episodes of The Practice for which he won a 2001 Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series. A few years later he then appeared in the 2004 horror movie Saw as Zep Hindle. He currently plays "Henry Gale" on ABC's Lost.

Boone from LOST Ian Somerhalder

A strikingly handsome player who proved his versatility with accomplished
forays into acting and modeling, Ian Somerhalder possesses the piercing
eyes and chiseled features that spell success in the more adult modeling world
and the emotional intensity and shy rebellious charm that makes perfect teen
heartthrob material on screen. A Louisiana native who spent many summers in
Manhattan working after he made his modeling debut at age ten, Somerhalder took
some time off to enjoy a regular school career, but returned to the business in
his mid-teens with extensive print and runway work that took him to Europe as
well as NYC. At age seventeen, he began his acting training, going on to work
with William Esper by age nineteen. Around that time he was spotted working as
an extra in a crowd scene in the James Toback feature "Black and White" (2000)
[let me save you the trip to the video store - you will not see Ian in Black
and White - his scene is on an editing room floor somewhere]. Intrigued by
his unique look, a manager signed him. Ian Somerhalder subsequently made
his TV debut on an episode of the acclaimed CBS sci-fi drama "Now and Again" in
1999. The following year he starred on the teen drama "Young Americans" on The
WB, playing the brooding Rawley Academy student Hamilton, son of the prep
school's dean. Unexpected feelings related to his close friendship with the
mysterious Jake (Katherine Moennig) lead the young man to question his
sexuality, and while the girl-posing-as-boy storyline somewhat trivialized the
very serious topic of sexual orientation, Hamilton's honest response to his
feelings and his confusion rang true, proving Ian Somerhalder an actor
with promise and potential, not just primetime eye candy.

Modeling Bio

Ian Somerhalder isn’t just another pretty face trying to make it in
Hollywood. Sure, this discovery (and recent Guess model) has a perfect jaw-line
and blue eyes to die for – but there’s more to him than that.

Ian’s first attempts to enter the business were as a child, but jobs were
hard to come by in his hometown of Mandeville, Louisiana. Ian was signed with
top agencies Click, Next, Arlene Wilson, (the list goes on), and he soon found
himself jetting of to New York, Chicago, Milan, Miami… and now Los Angeles.
Although he appreciates the solid footing his modeling has provided, his focus
is now on acting. After his first starring role on the WB’s “Young American’s”,
he followed with the independent film “Colored Eggs” alongside legends Faye
Dunaway and Lauren Holly. Next up he plays a gay socialite who falls for
straight guy Shaun [sic], played by James Van Der Beek (gee, what would Dawson
say?) in the sex and drug- filled dark comedy “Rules of Attraction” due out this
fall. “I didn’t think twice about accepting the role”, Ian says. “This film
could do for me what “Cruel Intentions” did for Ryan Philippe, Reese
Witherspoon, and Sarah Michelle Gellar.

I’m comfortable about my own sexuality, it didn’t matter. I’m happy to get
great roles where I can develop other characters other than my own. That’s what
acting is all about”

Harold Perrineau's first major television break happened in 1990 when he was cast in a recurring role on the NBC series "I’ll Fly Away." In 1995, he was cast in Wayne Wang’s critically acclaimed film "Smoke," a comedy that weaves together stories centering around a smoke shop.

Perrineau's ability to play three character's brought the actor's ability to the limelight. For his role in "Smoke," he was nominated for the Independent Spirit Award for Best Supporting Male. He next appeared opposite Leonardo DiCaprio, Claire Danes, and John Leguizamo in Baz Luhrmann's new rendition of Shakespeare's classic "Romeo + Juliet" in 1996.

The following year, Perrineau was cast in the critically acclaimed HBO series "OZ" (1997-2003) created by Tom Fontana. Perrineau portrayed the role of Augustus Hill, the wheel chair bound narrator imprisoned for 20 years to life for drug dealing and murder in this gritty, quick-paced CableACE-winning series.

Perrineau was cast in Malcolm Lee's feature film debut "The Best Man" (1999) and played a drag queen in Fina Torres' "Woman on Top" (2000), which starred Penelope Cruz. In 2003, Perrineau was seen as Link in the summer blockbuster "The Matrix Reloaded" and later that year, reprised his role in "The Matrix Revolutions."

The actor returned to series TV when he was cast as Michael, a man who had only just reclaimed custody of his young son when the two are among the 48 plane crash survivors on a seemingly deserted island on J.J. Abrams' clever adventure drama "Lost" (ABC, 2004 - ).

Charlie from LOST - Dominic Monaghan

An attractive performer, Dominic Monaghan broke out of being typecast in teen roles when he landed the role of Hobbit Meriadoc 'Merry' Brandybuck in Peter Jackson's tripartite feature adaptation of the J.R.R. Tolkein classic "The Lord of the Rings" (2001-03). Born in Germany to a nurse and a teacher, the diminutive brown-haired, blue-eyed actor spent his formative years in Berlin. When he was 12 years old, he relocated to Manchester, England with his family and following his completion of secondary school, began acting in local youth theater. Shortly thereafter, Monaghan was tapped to play Geoffrey Shawcross, the teenage sidekick to a sixtysomething housewife-turned-detective in the BBC series "Hetty Wainthropp Investigates" (1996-98). He went on to play a Russian sailor in the fact-based HBO drama "Hostile Waters" (1997) and a young Frenchman in the four-part British miniseries "Monsignor Renaud" (1999).
Monaghan had been spotted in a play in London and was asked to audition for a role in "The Lord of the Rings". While it took the producers several months to decide, he landed the plum role of the Hobbit named Merry. Shot over two years in 1999 and 2000, the film adaptation was a large gamble for New Line. The studio released the project in three parts over three years, "Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring" (2001), "Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers" (2002) and "Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King" (2003).
Rather than find himself typecast in subsequent fantasy or period fare, Monaghan headed to Hollywood in search of different roles and was subsequently cast as Charlie, the wanting-to-be-recognized rock drummer among the 48 marooned airline crash survivors on J.J. Abrams' clever adventure drama "Lost" (ABC, 2004-).

Matthew Fox - Jack from LOST

This handsome, dependable actor has achieved that television rarity – starring on two very different and equally popular TV series – first as older brother and patriarch Charlie to the orphaned Salinger clan on Fox’s family drama “Party of Five” (1994-2000), and a decade later, as cool-under-pressure Dr. Jack Shephard, one of several marooned plane crash survivors on ABC’s adventure drama “Lost (2004 - ). On both shows, Fox exuded a natural calm and confidence whenever chaos loomed, bringing the former model-turned-actor a loyal fan base of women smitten with his scruffy looks and men impressed by his take-charge attitude.

Born on July 14, 1966 to parents Loretta and Francis Fox in Crowheart, WY, Fox was the middle of three brothers growing up on the family’s long-horn cattle ranch. Ever the cowboy, Fox was in the saddle by age six. He attended Wind River High School before attending Deerfield Academy in Massachusetts for a post-grad year. After receiving a football scholarship from Columbia University, he balanced playing football with earning a degree in economics, graduating in 1988 with dreams of Wall Street.

His careers plans shifted dramatically when a girlfriend’s mother, who happened to be a modeling agent, suggested the 6’2” hunk try his hand at modeling instead of trading stocks. Fox landed a few commercials, but turned to acting as his new career-of-choice, studying for two years at The School for Film and Television in NYC.

The young actor landed his first TV role on an episode of “Wings” (NBC, 1990-97) in 1992, but made his debut as a featured player that same year, playing Danny Foley on the short-lived "Freshman Dorm" (CBS, 1992) – a dramatic series focusing on the trials and tribulations of six students entering college in Southern California. For a relative newcomer, Fox continued to find steady work both on the big and small screen, starring in the CBS Schoolbreak Special "If I Die Before I Wake" (1993) before debuting in his first feature film, the teen comedy "My Boyfriend's Back" (1993).

Then, he hit the big time. Fox landed the enviable role of oldest brother of five siblings orphaned by the sudden death of both parents in a car accident on "Party of Five" (Fox, 1994-2000). More grounded in reality than the network’s other teen dramas of the time – “Beverly Hills 90210” (1990-2000) and “Melrose Place” (1992-99) – the series struck a chord in viewers and joined the other two teen dramas to form the network’s appointment television trifecta. Fox brought warmth and empathy to his Charlie Salinger, a man torn between his need for freedom and his obligation to take care of his younger siblings.

During the “Party” years, Fox and co-star Scott Wolfe set many hearts aflutter – appearing on teen magazines and posters in many a young girls’ room. People Magazine even named Fox (nickname: “Foxy”) as one of the “50 Most Beautiful People in the World” in 1996. The grateful actor was so devoted to his hit show, he eschewed feature film offers while working on the series, but did earn strong notices for his work playing a mentally handicapped man opposite Donald Sutherland in the 1999 CBS TV movie "Behind the Mask.”

“Party” wrapped in 2000, leaving Fox to try for another series. He landed the role of Frank Taylor on the horror drama series “The Haunted” (UPN, 2002) but that proved short-lived.

By the time ABC began casting their risky new adventure/supernatural/drama “Lost,” Fox was ready again for a quality part in a good series. The mandatory move to Hawaii didn’t sound bad either. He originally auditioned for the role of Sawyer, but co-creator J.J. Abrams was so impressed with Fox’s reading of the commanding lead hero, Dr. Jack Shepard, that he allowed the actor to read the entire top-secret script, but kept running in and out of the room every 20 minutes asking Fox what thought of it. Abram’s trust in this particular auditioning actor told him he probably had the part.

After moving his family to the island of Oahu where the show was shot, Fox quickly bonded with the multi-cultural cast of actors who were all thrown together to shoot an $11 million-plus pilot that defied description. The first episode featured a violent plane crash, marooning the lucky survivors on a mysterious and seemingly deserted island. Despite their many personality clashes and personal frustrations, the group learned to bond together for survival, with Jack Shepard the glue that held them all together.

“Lost” premiered Sept. 22, 2004 to stellar ratings, becoming, along with “Desperate Housewives,” welcome double-whammy hits for the heretofore ailing network. Fans got hooked and hooked hard. Theories abounded , a la “Twin Peaks”/”X-Files” and all were water cooler fodder the next day – Were the survivors really dead? In purgatory? Trapped in another dimension? And what was up with the little kid talking backwards? Half the appeal of the monster hit show was figuring out exactly what was going on down on Danger Island.

As the group leader and one of the best known cast members, Fox reaped a lot of press – the most he had received since his “Party” days – appearing on the covers of Entertainment Weekly and GQ. He received industry recognition for his role, including 2005 Saturn and 2006 Golden Globe Award nominations for “Best Actor in a Drama.” Fox won a Golden Satellite Award in 2005 and shared the 2006 Screen Actors Guild Award for “Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series.”

When not shooting the demanding hit, good guy Fox showed his good will toward “Lost” cast and crew by throwing viewer parties at his home every Sunday night and gifting these same folks with a special memento photo album of pictures he took during the shooting of the pilot. These same pictures were deemed good enough for inclusion on the first season DVD – not surprisingly, a blockbuster bestseller as well.

Terry O'Quinn - John Locke from LOST

With looks that speak "common man" and a keen ability to communicate his character's words and thoughts, O'Quinn became, in the 1980s and 90s, one of those actors whose face you immediately recognize, but whose name is left to trivia buffs. After sporadic employment in New York in such efforts as the NBC soap opera "The Doctors" and co-starring with Faye Dunaway in "Curse of the Aching Heart" on Broadway in 1982, he began to be cast in supporting roles in movies and TV.

O'Quinn made his film debut in Michael Cimino's "Heaven's Gate" (1980). A large boost to his career came with Robert Benton's "Places in the Heart" (1984), in which he was Buddy, a good ol' boy cotton mill owner who is also a nasty Ku Klux Klan member. That same year, he appeared in Gillian Armstrong's "Mrs. Soffel". It took Joseph Ruben's low-budget "The Stepfather" (1987) to win O'Quinn notice. As the titular character, he delivers an intense, chilling portrait of a man who goes from cheerful and pleasant to menacing and deadly with ease. He went on to reprise the role in an unnecessary and inferior sequel "Stepfather 2" (1989). O'Quinn went on to deliver strong support in Christopher Cain's "Young Guns" (1988) as the lawyer who arranges for the youthful hired guns to search out a corrupt land owner (Jack Palance) and Joe Johnston's "The Rocketeer" (1991), in which he portrayed Howard Hughes. He was Moira Kelly's wealthy father in "The Cutting Edge" (1992), the town mayor in "Tombstone" (1993) and appeared as a state attorney with a grudge against the defense lawyer (Richard Gere) in Gregory Hoblit's "Primal Fear" (1996). The actor remained a familiar face in high-profile feature films (as well as several lower-profile efforts), appearing as a judge in Rob Reiner's "Ghosts of Mississippi" (1996), a key character in the ongoing alien conspiracy in "The X-Files" feature film (1998), in the misguided attempt to "Dawson's Creek"-ize the Western genre "American Outlaws" (2001) and the hit comedy "Old School" (2003).

Since making his primetime TV debut in "Right to Kill?" (ABC, 1985), a fact-based story of domestic violence directed by John Erman, O'Quinn has reteamed with the director several times: he was one of Aidan Quinn's doctors in "An Early Frost" (NBC, 1985), one of the first network films to deal with AIDS; he appeared as Bonnie Bedelia's husband in "When the Time Comes" (ABC, 1987), which grappled with assisted suicide; and he played Tyne Daly's husband in the divorce drama "The Last to Go" (ABC, 1991). In addition, O'Quinn was featured in "At Mother's Request" (CBS, 1987), Gregory Hoblit's "Roe vs. Wade" (NBC, 1989), with Holly Hunter and Amy Madigan, "Son of the Morning Star" (ABC, 1991), the biopic of General George Armstrong Custer in which he played General Alfred Terry, and "Don't Talk to Strangers" (USA, 1994), in which he was an alcoholic whose former wife suspects him of kidnapping their son. He subsequently appeared with Chris Cooper and David Schwimmer in the HBO plastic surgery drama "Breast Men" (1997) and opposite Gene Wilder in the comedy mystery "Murder in a Small Town" (1999).

O'Quinn became an increasingly regular fixture on series television beginning in the late 1990s. In 1995 he had a recurring role on the short-lived sci-fi series "Earth 2" and was also cast as Capt. Thomas Boone on the pilot episode of the popular military drama "JAG," returning to the role frequently in subsequent seasons. After using him as different characters on episodes of "The X-Files," series creator Chris Carter cast O'Quinn in his short-lived sci-fi drama "Harsh Realm" as a renegade genra; controlling a virtual reality world. In 2003 O'Quinn began the first of many appearances on the J.J. Abrams-created spy series "Alias" as F.B.I. Asst. Director Kendall, while simultaneously recurring as General Nicholas Alexander on the NBC White House drama "The West Wing." His connection to Abrams would pay off handsomely when he was cast as the mysterious Locke on Abrams's clever adventure drama "Lost" (ABC, 2004- ), the most enigmatic of the 48 plane crash survisors stranded on a seemingly deserted island.

Josh Holloway - Sawyer from LOST

Josh Holloway’s California surfer-dude good looks opened doors in Hollywood, but he had to shed his native Southern accent before being cast in the life-changing role as Sawyer, the apparently amoral scrounger on the hit ABC drama “Lost” (ABC, 2004 - ).

Born in Northern California on July 20, 1969, Holloway grew up in a rural northern Georgia trailer park, about 75 miles outside Atlanta. His father was a surveyor and his mom stayed at home. Always considering himself a “Blue Ridge Mountain Boy,” his early years may have hinted at his ability to play a shady character: Holloway now admits to shoplifting thousands of dollars of merchandise with his friends from the store where they worked, claiming that the profits from the scam got him through a semester of college. After one year at the University of Georgia, Holloway left for financial reasons and began a modeling career, which led him to travel throughout Europe and North America. During that time, he found semi-permanent homes in New York and Italy and there was lots of drifting in between.

He moved to Los Angeles to try his hand at the craft and his break was to play, appropriately, “Good-Looking Guy” on the first episode of the “Angel” series (WB 1999). He was soon developing movie creds as well. He did an independent film role a year for seven years before being cast in “Lost,” including “Cold Heart” (2001) with Nastassja Kinski, “Mi Amigo” (2002) and ‘Moving August” (2003) as well as an uncredited performance in “My Daughter’s Tears.” While trying to establish himself as an actor, the resourceful former model had a development company in Georgia and a French-Vietnamese eatery in Los Angeles.

Holloway also made appearances on “Walker, Texas Ranger,” “Sabretooth,” “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation,” “Navy NCIS” and “Good Girls Don’t” before landing his breakthrough role as the oily, morally challenged but still appealing Sawyer, the plane crash survivors always ready to put on price on the items he’s scavenged, on J.J. Abrams’ hit series “Lost.”
