Real Boone from LOST Ian Somerhalder Biography : |
|
A strikingly handsome player who proved his versatility with accomplished
forays into acting and modeling, Ian Somerhalder possesses the piercing
eyes and chiseled features that spell success in the more adult modeling world
and the emotional intensity and shy rebellious charm that makes perfect teen
heartthrob material on screen. A Louisiana native who spent many summers in
Manhattan working after he made his modeling debut at age ten, Somerhalder took
some time off to enjoy a regular school career, but returned to the business in
his mid-teens with extensive print and runway work that took him to Europe as
well as NYC. At age seventeen, he began his acting training, going on to work
with William Esper by age nineteen. Around that time he was spotted working as
an extra in a crowd scene in the James Toback feature "Black and White" (2000)
[let me save you the trip to the video store - you will not see Ian in Black
and White - his scene is on an editing room floor somewhere]. Intrigued by
his unique look, a manager signed him. Ian Somerhalder subsequently made
his TV debut on an episode of the acclaimed CBS sci-fi drama "Now and Again" in
1999. The following year he starred on the teen drama "Young Americans" on The
WB, playing the brooding Rawley Academy student Hamilton, son of the prep
school's dean. Unexpected feelings related to his close friendship with the
mysterious Jake (Katherine Moennig) lead the young man to question his
sexuality, and while the girl-posing-as-boy storyline somewhat trivialized the
very serious topic of sexual orientation, Hamilton's honest response to his
feelings and his confusion rang true, proving Ian Somerhalder an actor
with promise and potential, not just primetime eye candy.
Modeling Bio
Ian Somerhalder isn’t just another pretty face trying to make it in
Hollywood. Sure, this discovery (and recent Guess model) has a perfect jaw-line
and blue eyes to die for – but there’s more to him than that.
Ian’s first attempts to enter the business were as a child, but jobs were
hard to come by in his hometown of Mandeville, Louisiana. Ian was signed with
top agencies Click, Next, Arlene Wilson, (the list goes on), and he soon found
himself jetting of to New York, Chicago, Milan, Miami… and now Los Angeles.
Although he appreciates the solid footing his modeling has provided, his focus
is now on acting. After his first starring role on the WB’s “Young American’s”,
he followed with the independent film “Colored Eggs” alongside legends Faye
Dunaway and Lauren Holly. Next up he plays a gay socialite who falls for
straight guy Shaun [sic], played by James Van Der Beek (gee, what would Dawson
say?) in the sex and drug- filled dark comedy “Rules of Attraction” due out this
fall. “I didn’t think twice about accepting the role”, Ian says. “This film
could do for me what “Cruel Intentions” did for Ryan Philippe, Reese
Witherspoon, and Sarah Michelle Gellar.
I’m comfortable about my own sexuality, it didn’t matter. I’m happy to get
great roles where I can develop other characters other than my own. That’s what
acting is all about”
Modeling Mini-Bio
A child model with Ford NY, Ian was re-discovered at
fifteen outside New Orleans. Even at 5'9", Ian has shown that height is
irrelevant if you've got the goods. His handsome, yet bad boy good looks have
earned him the national Guess campaign for over a year now. He recently
auditioned all the way to the final casting choice for a starring role in the
WB's "Roswell".
